• Password — if you create an account. This is handled entirely by our authentication provider (Firebase Authentication) and is never visible to us in plain text.
• Course progress — which modules you've completed, so your progress is saved and available across devices.
• Payment information — if you purchase a course, payment is processed entirely by Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider. We never see or store your card details ourselves.

How we use your information

We use the information above to:

• Give you access to the course(s) you've signed up for or purchased
• Save and sync your progress across devices
• Send you course-related emails (like password resets or "course unlocked" notices)
• Send you updates, new course announcements, and free resources — only if you've opted in
• Process payments and deliver the correct course(s) after purchase

We do not sell your information to third parties, and we do not use it for advertising.

Third-party services we use

We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run this site:

• Firebase (Google) — for account login and storing your course progress
• Lemon Squeezy — for processing course purchases; they handle all payment card data directly
• Flodesk — for sending emails (course notifications and, if you opt in, newsletter updates)
• Netlify — for hosting this website

Each of these providers has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data on our behalf.

Children's privacy

Our courses are designed to support learners of all ages, and are often used by children with the involvement of a parent, guardian, or teacher. Creating an account requires an email address; we ask that any account be set up and managed by an adult on behalf of a young learner where appropriate. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without appropriate parental or guardian involvement, please contact us at contact@theenglishlanguageladder.com and we will delete it.

How long we keep your information

We keep your account and course progress information for as long as your account remains active, so you can continue accessing your course(s) and progress. If you'd like your account and data deleted entirely, contact us and we'll action this promptly.

Your rights

Wherever you're located, you can ask us at any time to:

• See what information we hold about you
• Correct any information that's inaccurate
• Delete your account and associated data
• Unsubscribe from marketing emails (there's an unsubscribe link in every email we send)

Cookies and local storage

Our course apps use your browser's local storage to keep things like your login session and course progress working smoothly — this stays on your own device and isn't shared with third parties beyond what's described above. We don't use tracking or advertising cookies.
